Fall is here in the mountains..

October has arrived and although the leaves aren't turning yet, Fall is in the air with it's cooler weather. Sadly, the last of our hummingbirds headed south a few days ago but the good news is that we have now opened up our fireplaces for the remainder of the year. We've already had several couples comment on how nice it was to go back to their room after dinner and enjoy a romantic fire.
The fawns in August's post have, of course, lost their spots and are growing up fast. You wouldn't recognize them!

Here is one of last year's babies... He now a proud 2 1/2 pointer ;-)

Anyway, Fall is a special time up here and we have lots of weekday nights still open so why not take a day or two off and come visit us when things are a bit quieter?

Hope to see you soon.

August

August has arrived and the Hummingbirds are enjoying the warmer weather. They have sucked down almost 50 gallons of 'nectar' so far this year! In our back yard (outside the dining room) we've got two fawns learning to enjoy the Sugar Tree's hospitality.. they really are cute....

We just finished up a very busy weekend and are looking ahead to Labor Day Weekend when we will be offering a third night at 1/2 price special. We always book up this weekend so why not get the room you want for three nights and save enough for a nice dinner! See our Specials page for details.

Ya'll be safe and hope to see you here soon!

The end of July

Wow, where have June & July gone?!
We've been busy here and, as our nectar count so clearly points out, so have the Hummingbirds!! Becky actually went through two gallons of the stuff yesterday! I know it's hard to believe that the little birds could suck down that much sugar water, but they do... A departing guest asked us this morning how may birds we have and all we could tell her is its hundreds and hundreds, maybe a thousand... who knows? Enough that we have used 25 pounds of sugar in four days. Perhaps someone out there can convert that into a count... Please call if you can!
Summer is obviously here and our guests are loving the cool nights up here... it was 57 this morning so very few people are running the air conditioners... most are just leaving the windows open and waking up to the sounds of the birds. For those of you that have never been here, the birds are about all you hear as morning arrives here. No traffic, no sirens, virtually no man made noises at all... just what nature provides.
August is shaping up to be a busy month for us... one weekend is already completely booked up and our oldest daughter is getting married on the 23rd, so we will be full that weekend with family.
Come see us soon, we would love to share our little piece of heaven with you!

May is the perfect month!

May 5, 2008
If we had to pick one month of the year as our favorite, it would probaly be May. Winter is behind us and the brilliant greens of the forest come alive... Our hummingbirds are back in force, swarming around like giant bees, fighting each other off as they compete for one of the thirteen feeders Becky puts out. All of the Azaleas are in full bloom and a few Rhododendrons are showing their colors with the rest soon to follow. We've had plenty of rain lately so this year is turing into one of the most beautiful we've seen. Crabtree Falls is rushing as are the valleys rivers.. Come see for yourself,,, you'll be glad you did!

Spring is here!

Well folks, it April 19 and Spring has finally arrived here at The Sugar Tree! It's been a VERY long winter but that is all behind us as the Daffodils and irises have bloomed and our first Hummingbird has arrived. For those of you who don't know, we have hundreds and hundreds of the tiny birds every year. Becky keeps thirteen feeders going ans she has to fill them four or five times a day during the frenzy season!!!
The Rhododendron, Azaleas, and Mountain Laurel won't be dormant much longer, so make your plans to come visit our beautiful part of the country soon!
